How to choose a replacement for a power mosfets.

How to choose a replacement for a mosfets.

This is a very application-specific, so there’s not much I can tell you without knowing the exact circuit where it’s going to be used.

Of course, the usual limitations apply:

What should you pay attention to?

The mosfets-replacement  current, frequencies and voltage must be greater than or equal to the original.
  1. maximum voltages,
  2. maximum currents,
  3. maximum frequencies,
  4. maximum gate voltage etc.

To understand the  MOSFET characteristics, check several parameters critical to their performance:

  • Blocking voltage (BVDSS)
  • Maximum single pulse avalanche energy (EAS)
  • On-resistance (RDS(ON))
  • Maximum junction temperature (TJ(max))
  • Continuous drain current (ID)
  • Safe operating area (SOA)
  • Gate charge (QG)
  • Threshold Voltage (VGS(th))
  • Body-Diode Forward Voltage (VSD)
  • Maximum Allowable Power Dissipation (PD)
  • Thermal Resistance, Junction-to-Case (Rθjc)
  • dv/dt capability
